Programme 04 of 10
Social Welfare & Humanitarian Support
Direct relief for households in crisis, and a route back to stability.
Relief
Food, bedding and clothing to households in acute need.
Transparency
Community-verified beneficiary lists, published locally.
Exit route
Relief recipients referred into training and livelihood support.
Some households need help before any programme can reach them: a family displaced by drought, a widow with no income, an elderly person with no one to register them for assistance. ADAM provides that direct support, and then works to make sure it is not needed again next season.
Why this matters
Minority households are consistently under-counted in beneficiary lists. When aid is allocated through clan structures and community leaders, families outside those structures are simply not on the paper. ADAM’s welfare work exists partly to fill that gap directly and partly to make the omission visible to the agencies doing the counting.
What we do
- Food and essential household distributions to families identified as most at risk.
- Bedding, mattresses, blankets and clothing for displaced and destitute households.
- Seasonal support, including Ramadan food programmes and drought response.
- Assistance for orphans, widows, elderly people and persons with disabilities.
- Help with registration and documentation so families appear on official assistance lists.
- Referral of relief recipients into ADAM’s training and livelihood programmes.
How we work
Beneficiaries are selected with community committees using transparent criteria, and lists are published locally so selection can be challenged. Wherever possible, a household that receives relief is also offered a place in a skills or livelihood programme, so that assistance is a bridge rather than a destination.
