How minority communities are portrayed in Somaliland’s media shapes how they are treated everywhere else. ADAM produces and places content that replaces stereotype with evidence, and trains community members to tell their own stories.

Why this matters

Communities that appear in the news only as a problem are treated as a problem. Communities that never appear at all are treated as absent. Both patterns are correctable, and correcting them costs less than almost anything else we do.

What we do

• Radio, television and print campaigns on minority rights, education and inclusion.
• Social media communication and digital campaigns reaching young people and the diaspora.
• Documenting programme activities in photography, video and written case studies.
• Media training for journalists on fair, non-stereotyping coverage of minority communities.
• Training community members — especially youth and women — to tell their own stories.
• Publishing ADAM’s reports, research and policy positions for public and donor audiences.

How we work

Content is produced in Somali first and in English where it serves advocacy. We prioritise first-person accounts over descriptions written about people, and we seek consent for every image and story we publish.
