Programme 02 of 10

Health & Community Wellbeing

Basic health services reaching the households that services usually miss.

Awareness

Health and hygiene sessions delivered inside minority settlements.

Supplies

Hygiene kits and essential materials distributed to households and clinics.

Access

Referral and accompaniment support to reduce turn-away at facilities.

Minority neighbourhoods sit at the edge of the health system: furthest from the clinic, last to hear about a campaign, least likely to be registered. ADAM works to close that distance with awareness, supplies and practical referral help.

Why this matters

Distance is only part of the problem. Families who expect to be treated badly at a facility often do not go at all, and health messaging that never reaches a settlement cannot change behaviour there. During the COVID-19 period this gap became impossible to ignore — the same households that had the least access to water and soap were the least likely to have heard accurate guidance.

What we do

  • Community health awareness sessions on hygiene, sanitation, maternal and child health.
  • Distribution of hygiene and sanitation supplies to households and public facilities.
  • Public health campaigns, including outbreak and epidemic response messaging in Somali.
  • Support with medicines and essential supplies to clinics serving minority neighbourhoods.
  • Referral support and accompaniment so that patients are received and treated with respect.
  • Training community volunteers as health promoters inside their own settlements.

How we work

We coordinate with the Ministry of Health Development and with the health facilities already serving each district rather than running services in parallel. Our contribution is reach: getting the message, the supplies and the patient to meet each other.

Get involved

Minority communities are not waiting to be spoken for.

They are enrolling children, learning trades, standing for office and documenting what happens to them. Back that work.
